My Favourite Resources

The first thing I did when I found out I was pregnant was order all the books. I wanted to find out as much as I could about pregnancy and what I could expect in the upcoming
months.

Bumpin': The Modern Guide To Pregnancy
By Leslie Schrock I found a lot of the pregnancy guidance books to be out of date. Bumpin' has been my go to book throughout my pregnancy and I love its modern approach. The book also has real accounts of peoples' experiences peppered throughout it which I have found helpful.

Expecting Better By Emily Ostler

I absolutely adore this book. I found a lot of the advice and guidance given by my OB's (at my practice you see a rotation of doctors) confusing and sometimes conflicting. This book did an excellent job of explaining the "why" with thoughtful, evidence-based explanations. I really liked being able to understand both sides of the argument and decide what was the best course for me.

SKIPPING
the Pregnancy Community Forums

Okay not so much as a resource but, rather a strong suggestion... I found the community forums to be very unhelpful and even triggering, especially in the first trimester. Wade into these forums with extreme caution and remember that the best advice is from a medical provider. The amplification of negative messaging and tendency towards assuming the worst makes them very unhealthy. For the routine questions I highly recommend checking your pregnancy book or checking in with a friend who has already been pregnant, and taking it from there.
