Dad Diaries - Part 1

A few months ago I became a dad. It was the best feeling in the world. Nothing can prepare for the feeling you get when you hold your new baby in your arms for your first time. And nothing can prepare you for the way your life and daily (and nightly) routine will forever be changed by that wonderful new addition to the family! But I think every new parent would agree that it’s all worth it.

Now I will be embarking on another big change. In a few days my wife will be returning to work and I will be starting a parental leave and taking on full-time parenting duties. It’s an amazing opportunity but it’s also a little daunting. Switching from a nine-to-five job to full-time daddy duty is going to be a huge change and certainly a big challenge. But my wife has been doing a really great job, so hopefully I can pick up where she left off and continue her great work.

It’s really great to have the opportunity to take a sabbatical from work in order to stay home with our son, Brody. Parental leaves weren’t really available to dads a generation ago. When I was growing up it was rare for a dad to take an extended period time off work to stay home and care for a new baby, so I feel really privileged to be able to have this opportunity. I think staying home with Brody for the next seven months will be really beneficial for both of us and will help us to create a lasting bond.

During my time at home I’ll be telling the story of my time with Brody in this blog. Follow along as I chronicle my adventures with Brody and discuss parenting related topics that come up along the way.
