Top 5 Bedtime Stories

By Francesca Brunsden, Social Media Manager & Mom

Poppys Collection Storytime GirlBedtime and storytime are special times to create memories children will treasure for years to come. Long into adulthood, we remember and cherish our favorite books from our childhood. The magic of story time and screen-free imaginative play is not lost and it's up to us as parents to encourage and nurture the imaginations of our children. Now that I'm a parent, I look forward to sharing my favorite childhood books with my son and watching his face light up as we turn each page.

Here at Poppys Collection, we believe the best books are the ones that stand the test of time. Much like the products we select for Poppys Collection, we love the timeless classics the best. We hope our list will inspire you to read with your little ones too.

1. THE GRUFFALO by Julia Donaldson

 The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
For anyone who has read a Julia Donaldson book, you know how enjoyable they are to read out loud. The words rhyme and roll off of your tongue effortlessly. They are as enjoyable to read to your kids as they are to hear as a child. I love the way this book fires-up the imagination with the attention to detail and those perfect illustrations. Oh, and the Gruffalo himself has to be the best-loved monster there ever was!

2. ONE FISH, TWO FISH, RED FISH, BLUE FISH by Dr. Seuss

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss
The classic Dr. Seuss storybook is a simple rhyming book for very young kids that's so catchy it will be stuck in your head for days. The bold, eye-catching colours will keep your little ones captivated. This book is also a sly way to help your kids learn to count without them even realizing.

3. GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU by Sam McBratney

Guess How Much I Love You
This classic is super cute. After becoming a parent myself, the narrative has taken on a much deeper meaning for me. It's a timeless story that all parents will happily read over and over. Your little ones will also enjoy doing the actions along with you. Plus it's a heartwarming story that will leave you both feeling warm and snuggly and ready for sleepytime.

4. MILLICENT AND THE WIND by Robert Munsch

Millicent and the Wind by Robert Munsch

Millicent is a little girl who has only the wind as a playmate. Other kids tease her for having no friends, but on one special day, the wind blows a friend her way. We love how this book celebrates one girl's imagination and captivates your imagination with beautiful sweeping illustrations.

5. DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS by Mo Willems

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems
This storybook is destined to become a classic. A bus driver has to leave so he asks the reader to make sure the pigeon doesn't drive the bus. The pigeon tries every method of persuasion to convince the reader to let it drive the bus. This story is so engaging, it will have everyone reading along.
