There is an app for that

Can’t sleep! Won’t sleep! Is the motto of almost every newborn! And I do not know about you, BUT I am a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE person if I do not get my sleep.

And for those of you thinking it – yes, I probably should have factored in my nonexistent ability to cope with sleep deprivation into account before having a baby. Hindsight is 20 / 20.

When my son was 2 months old, and I was scraping by on 2 months of sporadic 3 hour nap sessions, my partner had just left for overseas and would be gone for another couple of months, I WAS TIRED. And I literally felt trapped – not knowing how long my son was going to nap for, or when he would cry and need to eat next.

I remember holding him while he cried and crying myself, thinking women have been raising babies for thousands of years – ISN’T THERE A BETTER WAY?

And in my desperation and heavy trolling of Instagram – I discovered my golden ticket. MOMS ON CALL! A scheduling app based off of a book, was my hero! After reading maybe 5 reviews, that’s how easily I was convinced at this point, I downloaded the MOMS ON CALL app!

After 3 days of following their scheduling, my son slept from 7:30 pm until 2:30 am, within the week he would sleep through the night until 5:30 am, and then eventually the full 12 hours that the book promised!

For the first time in 2 months, I slept. I would say it was blissfully uninterrupted – BUT I neurotically woke up every 2-3 hours in paranoia to check if my son was alive and breathing. And he was – sleeping like a baby and eventually I got to sleep too!

Uninterrupted sleep is a beautiful thing! A very beautiful thing!

This app became my security blanket! I could take my son out on adventures, travel around the city and province and even into different time zones– knowing that he was getting all the sleep and nourishment he needed!

Especially now that I am back at the office, my son has his schedule and can easily transition no matter who is spending the day with him.

So while we continue to have our good days and our not so good days, we no longer have sleepless nights!
